Seattle Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson voted MLS Player of the Week

May 20, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK - Seattle Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 12 of the 2013 MLS season.

Eddie Johnson led Seattle to a 4-2 victory over League-leading FC Dallas on Saturday as he scored two goals, including the game winner. The Sounders unbeaten streak is now extended to six games.

Johnson opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Osvaldo Alonso headed a ball over the Dallas defense to Johnson who out ran his defender and ripped a half volley with his left foot into the lower right corner of the net.

Johnson scored again in the 62nd minute when Lamar Neagle's pass split two defenders to find Johnson, who dribbled around Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez and shot the ball into the center of the goal.

Sounders FC are back in action this Sunday when they travel to the Home Depot Center to play the LA Galaxy in a nationally televised game on ESPN2 (11 p.m. ET).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
