Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

MIDLAND - David Martinez upped his record to a minor-league best 7-0 Sunday afternoon and Erik Castro led the charge at the plate with a two-run home run as the Hooks dispatched the RockHounds 5-3 at Citibank Ballpark.

The victory puts Corpus Christi (25-18) in position to win the series Monday night. The Hooks have settled for three consecutive splits following a sweep of Midland (20-23) April 30-May 3.

Anthony Aliotti, who went 4-for-5 with three home runs, a double and eight RBIs Saturday night, got off to a quick start Sunday. He served a two-out double over the head of left-fielder Michael Burgess in the first and promptly scored on Jake Goebbert's two-run blast to right-center.

Martinez settled in from there, retiring 10 in a row until Chad Oberacker's lead-off walk in the fifth. The next batter, Darwin Perez, bounced into a double play and Martinez induced a fly out from Miles Head to end the inning. He fanned six batters on the afternoon and threw 40 of 62 pitches for strikes.

Corpus Christi provided Martinez with a run in the third. Burgess hit a ground ball to short to open the inning. The ball was misplayed by Dusty Coleman for the first of six RockHound errors. Enrique Hernandez then lined a single into center field. Following a sac bunt by Ben Orloff, Rene Garcia hit a ground ball to the right side, scoring Burgess.

Coleman committed another error in the fourth. This time an errant throw allowed lead-off hitter Domingo Santana to reach base. One out later, Castro hammered an 0-1 pitch from Arnold Leon (2-3) down the right field-line for his third home run of the season. Castro went 3-for-3 on the day with a pair of singles and a walk.

Rehabbing Astro Josh Fields worked around D'Arby Myers' one-out walk in a scoreless sixth inning. He has now retired eight of nine batters faced during this assignment with the Hooks.

Corpus Christi tacked on two in the seventh thanks to speed and another Midland miscue. Hernandez stroked a double to the gap in right-center with one away. Orloff followed with a walk and the two pulled off a double-steal, placing runners at second and third. Garcia cashed in his second RBI with a sac fly to center. George Springer followed and grounded a 3-0 pitch down the third-base line. Miles Head backhanded the ball cleanly but his long throw was off target to first base. Orloff came home on the play, putting the Hooks up 5-2.

Springer, who swiped second and third in seventh, tied the club record for stolen bases in a game with four.

Mike Foltynewicz struggled with location but battled for his second save. He yielded two walks, three hits and an unearned run, getting the final out with the winning run at the plate.

Garcia cracked a double in the ninth inning, extending his hit streak to eight games.

Ruben Alaniz (0-5) gets the ball for Corpus Christi Monday night. He'll face Sean Murphy (1-1) in a 6:30 start.
