(CHARLESTON, W. Va.) West Virginia starter Clay Holmes and two relievers teamed up to hold the Lexington Legends to two hits as the Power took the opener of a four-game series 3-1 Friday night.

Dilson Herrera had a perfect four-for-four night with a home run, a double and two singles for West Virginia.

After a one-hour, 33 minute rain delay, the Legends took the lead in the top of the first inning when Terrance Gore led off with a walk, stole second base, went to third on a sacrifice by Raul Mondesi, and scored on a ground out by Fred Ford.

Herrera hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1.

The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Eric Wood doubled, moved to third on a single by D.J. Crumlich and scored on a single by Raul Fortunato.

West Virginia scored its final run in the seventh on a single by Herrera, a stolen base, and a single by Stetson Allie.

West Virginia reliever Bryton Trepagnier (1-2), who entered the game in the sixth inning, picked up the win. Ali Williams (2-2), who relieved starter Colin Rodgers in the fifth, took the loss.

The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday as a result of a rainout Thursday night. The first of two seven-inning games will begin at 5:05 p.m.
