Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Illinois - After taking the opener of a split day-night doubleheader, the Kane County Cougars committed six errors in the nightcap allowing six unearned runs in an 8-2 loss to the Peoria Chiefs on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
The Kane County Cougars (19-19) took an early lead when Marco Hernandez drilled a two-run homer over the right field fence in the second inning off of Peoria Chiefs (19-19) starter Silfredo Garcia (1-0).
The Chiefs responded immediately in the top of the third inning to take the lead for good with six runs off of Cougars starter Michael Heesch (2-3). With two runners on and two outs in the inning, Ildemaro Vargas started the scoring with a two-run double to score the only two earned runs of the game for the Chiefs. After a walk to Jacob Wilson, an error by Jeimer Candelario loaded the bases. Michael Swinson then hit a bouncing ball that Gioskar Amaya misplayed allowing two runs to score. Carson Kelly followed with an RBI single to center. Oliver Zapata fielded the ball and overthrew third base allowing the sixth run of the inning to score.
In all, Heesch allowed six runs, two of which were earned, in three innings on four hits and two walks. Stephan Perakslis tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen with two strike outs. Bijan Rademacher pitched the seventh inning and surrendered two more unearned runs due to a Marco Hernandez error.
Garcia went six innings for the Chiefs and allowed just one more hit after the second-inning home run to Hernandez. The righty walked one and struck out one while giving up just three hits in all.
The Cougars head on the road for a seven-game, eight-day road trip starting Thursday night. In the opener of a four-game set against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Thursday at 6:35 p.m., the Cougars will send Dillon Maples (0-0) to the mound against Tyler Duffey (3-1). The Cougars will return home on May 25th at 6:30 p.m. against the Beloit Snappers. For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
