Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM DASH (18-19) vs. MYRTLE BEACH PELICANS (24-14)

RHP Chris Bassitt (4-0, 1.71 ERA) vs. LHP Victor Payano (3-2, 4.29 ERA)

7 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, NC)

JAYE STARS IN HIGH-A DEBUT, DASH WIN Newcomer Myles Jaye recorded a quality start in his High-A debut, and Winston-Salem pulled past first-place Myrtle Beach 5-2 Tuesday night inside BB&T Ballpark. Jaye tossed six strong frames and whiffed six in his victorious effort, which came just hours after officially joining the Dash's roster. The Pelicans enjoyed a pair of one-run leads, but Winston scored four runs in the fifth to take control of the contest. Eight of the Dash's nine offensive starters had a base hit. With the victory, Winston-Salem snapped the Pelicans' seven-game winning streak.

BASSITT, BIRDS MEET AGAIN Winston-Salem starter Chris Bassitt will look to continue his dominance against the Pelicans tonight. In six career appearances versus Myrtle Beach, the Curtice, Ohio, native has not allowed a run over 23.1 innings of work. This includes his seven scoreless frames in the deciding Game 3 of last season's Southern Division Championship Series. In his first effort against the Birds in 2012, the righty blanked the Pelicans over seven innings and whiffed a career-high nine on the Grand Strand on April 17.

NEAR THE TOP OF THE CL Bassitt currently enjoys a career-long five-game winning streak dating back to his final regular season start of 2012. The former Akron Zip has won all four of his decisions this year, and they came in consecutive starts from April 17 to May 3. Bassitt, who is tied with five other hurlers for the league lead in wins, boasts the best ERA (1.71) among active CL hurlers. The only other qualifying pitcher with a better ERA is former Potomac righty Taylor Jordan (1.24), who has since advanced to Double-A Harrisburg.

UPHILL CLIMB With 33 games remaining in the first half, the Dash trail Myrtle Beach by 5.5 games in the Southern Division. A year ago, the Dash battled back from a six-game deficit after 14 games to win the second-half division crown.

THIS ISN'T HOCKEY When Max Peterson tossed a pair of scoreless innings Tuesday to preserve a three-run victory, the Dash earned their first save since Cody Winiarski notched one at Wilmington on April 28. Despite this 13-game drought, the Dash still pace the circuit with 12 saves. In its first 23 games, Winston-Salem played in a league-leading 13 one- or two-run games (57%). Since then, however, only three of the Dash's last 14 games have been decided by two runs or less (21%). Winston is 4-3 in one-run contests but just 3-6 in two-run affairs.

HEISLER'S ON-BASE STREAK Dating back to last season, Winston-Salem outfielder Adam Heisler has reached base in 38 straight games, which is the second-longest current streak in Minor League Baseball. Jamal Austin of High Desert (High-A, Seattle) has reached safely in 46 straight contests dating back to late last season. Heisler has received back-to-back off days and has not played since Sunday against Potomac. The Mobile, Ala., native has gone hitless in his last two games and is in the midst of a 1-for-10 funk.

MORE ON THE STREAK Heisler reached in his final three games of 2012 while with rookie-level Great Falls before finding his way on base in all 35 games this year (19 with Low-A Kannapolis and 16 with Winston-Salem). Heisler has hit safely in 29 of these 38 games, during which he owns a .299 average (44-for-147) with 16 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

MILLIONTH FAN EXPECTED THURSDAY The Dash anticipate to welcome the one millionth fan in BB&T Ballpark's history on Thursday night. BB&T Ballpark will reach this milestone quicker than any facility in High-A baseball. Since the ballpark opened in April of 2010, a total of 996,608 fans have attended a Dash game at BB&T Ballpark, which leads High-A baseball during that span. This means that the Dash are 3,392 fans shy of the one million mark.
