Greenville Drive News Release

The road woes continued for the Greenville Drive (12-27) on Wednesday afternoon, as the Asheville Tourists (22-16) rode a seven-run fourth inning to an 8-1 victory and a sweep of the three-game series.

Most of the fourth-inning damage was done against Drive starter Brian Johnson (1-2) with the Tourists already leading 1-0. After a walk and a stolen base, a throwing error on a bunt scored the first run. Johnson struck out the next batter, but three consecutive RBI doubles by Matt Argyropoulos, Chris O'Dowd and Juan Ciriaco put three more runs on the scoreboard. An RBI single from Matt Wessinger scored yet another run and forced the Drive to go to the bullpen for JB Wendelken. After a balk, Jose Rivera and Rosell Herrera hit back-to-back doubles for the final two runs of the frame.

Those runs were more than enough for Tourists starter T.J. Oakes (4-3), who allowed just one run over seven innings of work. He allowed six hits and one walk while striking out three. Michael Mason and Jesse Meaux each hurled a scoreless inning to finish the game.

The Tourists took the lead in the bottom of the first, as Wessinger reached on an error to begin the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on Herrera's RBI groundout.

The Drive got their only run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth. Jose Vinicio singled through the left side, stole second and came around to score when Bryan Johns dumped a single into center.

Ciriaco had three hits to lead the way for Asheville. Herrera had a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Argyropoulos, O'Dowd and Derek Jones also collected two hits each. Vinicio, Aneury Tavarez and Jordan Weems picked up two hits apiece for Greenville.

The Drive will return to Fluor Field on Thursday to begin a four-game series with the division rival Charleston RiverDogs. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7:05. RHP Francellis Montas (1-4, 5.90) will take the mound hoping to stop the Drive's four-game losing skid, while Charleston's starter is RHP Rafael DePaula (3-2, 2.70).
