Tonight the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, take on the Winston-Salem Dash, Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Chicago White Sox. It is the second game of a three-game series. The Pelicans (24-14) enter play 5.5 games up in the southern division. Left-hander Victor Payano (3-2, 4.29) will be opposed by right-hander Chris Bassitt (4-0, 1.71). First pitch at BB&T Ballpark is set for 7 p.m.

OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

YESTERDAY ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans saw their seven-game winning streak come to a close Tuesday with a 5-2 loss against the Winston-Salem Dash. The Birds held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first five innings before surrendering four runs in the fifth inning. Right-hander Luke Jackson absorbed just his second loss of the season while Trever Adams added to his league-leading RBI total of 29. Home field - The Pelicans are 16-4 at home, the best clip in the Carolina League. The Birds have won nine straight at home and have the second most home wins in affiliated baseball, trailing only the 18-4 Indianapolis Indians of the Triple-A International League.

BEAT THE STREAK ... Patrick Cantwell's eight-game hitting streak is the longest active streak in the league and matches the longest from a Pelican this season. Rougned Odor had an eight-game streak earlier this season.

FAMILIAR FOES ... The Pelicans have met Winston-Salem in the playoffs twice in the last five years, including in the 2012 divisional series. The Dash took down the Pelicans two games to one before falling to Lynchburg. In 2008, the Pelicans took three of four from the Winston-Salem Warthogs in the divisional series.

ROSTER MOVE ... Right-hander Jon Edwards has been placed on the disabled list. Right-hander Jose Monegro, 23, joins the team from extended spring training. In six relief appearances with the Pelicans in 2012, Monegro went 1-0 with a 6.60 earned run average.

UP NEXT ... The Pelicans play 10 of their next 16 games on the road. The Pelicans return home for a "Team Tuesday" on May 21st - the first 1,000 fans will receive a Rafael Furcal poster presented by Sheriar Press and 100.3 The Team. Wednesday will be a Wiener Wednesday while Thirsty Thursday will celebrate the release of Hangover 3.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
