Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

Your first-place Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium to open a seven-day, eight-game home stand! Here's a preview of what you can expect these next seven dates:

May 14-16 vs. Burlington

The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium to host the Burlington Bees, the Midwest League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

It's Twins Tuesday, presented by Great Clips, on Tuesday, May 14th. Get an on-line coupon from the Kernels Facebook page or email newsletter with a 2 for 1 ticket offer. The Kernels will wear replica Minnesota Twins jerseys and fans can win a pair of Twins tickets that will be given away during the game. The Kernels welcome special guests from Thrivent Financial to the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Bees is set for 6:35 pm.

It's a double bonus when the Kernels take on Burlington on Wednesday, May 15th. First, you'll want to be here when the gates open at 4:30 pm for Free Money Wednesday as the Kernels will give away up to $1,000 to fans as they enter through the gates with the top cash prize being $100. The early gates are due to a doubleheader, consisting of two 7-inning games, to make up a game rained out in Burlington earlier this year. The Kernels welcome guests from Truman and Westfield Elementary schools to their night at the ballpark. First pitch in game one between the Kernels and Bees is set for 5:30 pm.

On Thursday, May 16th it's a Z 102.9 Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. regular draft beer, bottled soda and water are just $2.00 all game. It's also College Night - any student that shows a valid college ID receives a Club ticket for $7.00, a coupon for two slices of pizza and can enter into a drawing for $100 cash! The game will be broadcast on Mediacom Cable channel 22. The Kernels welcome the Cedar Hills Booster Club and Hoover Elementary to their night at the stadium. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Burlington is set for 6:35 pm.

May 17-20 vs. Kane County

The Kernels continue the current home stand with four games against the Kane County Cougars, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Friday, May 17th as the first 500 fans through the gates receive a free Kernels cap, thanks to the Best Western Longbranch. It's also a 98.1 KHAK Kernels Mug Club Night - buy a 16 oz. collector's mug for $6.00 and get it filled at the concession stand with regular draft beer or soda. Bring it back to the stands during the game, and EVERY Friday home game, for $3.00 refills. The Corridor Therapy Dogs will have a display on the concourse. And the Kernels welcome guests from Central City Schools, Summit School, Jackson Elementary and Trinity Lutheran to their night at the ballpark. First pitch between the Kernels and Cougars is set for 6:35 pm.

Here's a chance to learn from the pros during our Youth Baseball Clinic for boys and girls ages 5-12 on Saturday, May 18th from 9 to 11 am. The cost is $15 per child in advance and $20 the day of the clinic, which will be held rain or shine.

A BIG night is on tap when the Kernels take on Kane County on Saturday, May 18th. First, three lucky fans, age 18 and older, will win a "˜new' used car on Pat McGrath Chevyland Used Car Night. The Kernels are wearing special jerseys during the game that will be sold via a silent auction with the proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. There will be a massage therapist from Body Oasis on the concourse with all donations for massages going to the American Cancer Society. The game will be broadcast LIVE on KCRG 9.2 and after the game, a post-game concert by the band 8 Seconds, followed by our first FIREWORKS show of the year. Fireworks nights are VERY popular so get your tickets early. Gates open at 4:00 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Kane County is set for 5:05 pm.

Another big day is on tap for Sunday, May 19th. It's a 104.5 KDAT Run the Bases Sunday where fans can run the bases, play catch in the outfield and get autographs from the Kernels players on the field after the game. Enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon and face painting by Kennedy Wilson on the concourse during the game and play Baseball Bingo during the game, presented by Travel Advisors and the Radisson near Mall of America for a chance to win a trip to Minneapolis.
