Today's Game:
The Buffalo Bisons take on the Louisville Bats in the finale of a four-game series from Louisville Slugger Field (6:35 p.m.). Up 2-1, the Herd can earn a series win with a victory tonight. Tomorrow, the Bisons continue their roadtrip with the start of a four-game series in Indy.
vs. the Bats
Tonight's game is the final regular season contest between the Bisons and the Bats this year. The Herd holds the 4-3 edge and can earn the season-series win with a victory today. The last time Buffalo won a four-game series in Louisville was 2008 (3-1). Since returning to the IL in 1998, the Bisons hold the 68-59 (.535) edge on the Bats.
Road Sweet Road
The Bisons are 13-4 away from Coca-Cola Field this season, good for a .764 winning percentage. The Herd has not had a winning road record in a season since going 42-31 during their 2004 IL Champion campaign. The Herd has scored 27 more runs on the road (110) than at home (83) despite playing one less game.
On the Bump
RHP CLAUDIO VARGAS will make his team-leading seventh start of the season tonight. The righty has worked at least six innings in each of his last five starts. The veteran leads the Bisons in innings pitched (35.0) and strikeouts (28). In three starts on the road this season, Vargas is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 17.0 innings of work (13 SO).
Jim Negrych
INF JIM NEGRYCH's .433 batting average is 33 points better than any hitter in affiliated baseball. He enters tonight's game on a 10-game hit streak where he has averaged .439 (18-41) since May 2. Negrych also leads the IL in on-base pct. (.487) and slugging pct. (.663) and is tied for 2nd in doubles (13) and tied for 3rd in runs scored (25).
Luis Jimenez
INF LUIS JIMENEZ is right behind his teammate on the IL leader boards. The slugger ranks 2nd in the IL in average (.379), on-base pct. (.442) and slugging pct. (.655). Jimenez also leads the league in RBI (34) and is tied for 2nd in home runs (8).
Bisons Bits
The Bisons lead the league with a .295 average and 42 home runs...OF ANTHONY GOSE is tied for the IL lead with 28 runs scored...The Bisons are 17-5 in games that C JOSH THOLE has started behind the plate.
The Blue Jays (15-24) blew out the Red Sox on Sunday, 12-4. OF JOSE BAUTISTA clubbed a pair of home runs as Toronto scored in six of the nine innings. INF EMILIO BONIFACIO also homered and doubled in the win. The Blue Jays have an off day on Monday.
