Dynamo's Home Unbeaten Streak Ends

May 13, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release

Sporting Kansas City secured a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday night at BBVA Compass stadium to end Houston's 36-game home unbeaten streak in all competitions. Aurelien Collin's header goal in the 73rd minute was the game-winner as the Dynamo lost at home for the first time since June 18, 2011.

Houston's home unbeaten streak ends at 36 games in all competitions and 30 regular season games. Both streaks are Major League Soccer records.

It was the first Dynamo loss at BBVA Compass Stadium since it opened exactly one year ago, May 12, 2012. Since its opening, the Dynamo became the third team in American professional sports history to play at least 20 regular season games in a new stadium without defeat. Houston was 15-0-7 in 22 regular season games at BBVA Compass Stadium before Sunday's loss. The Dynamo are now 19-1-8 in all competitions at their new home.

The Dynamo (6-3-2; 20 points) are tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with Sporting Kansas City (6-4-2) and the Montreal Impact (6-2-2) and a point behind the New York Red Bulls (6-4-3; 21 points).

With both teams playing their third game in eight days, Sporting Kansas City seized a lead in the 73rd minute. Seth Sinovic sent a long throw in to the middle of the penalty area, and Collin flicked a header into the net for his second goal of the year and a 1-0 advantage.

Houston had chances to equalize, including a header from rookie Jason Johnson that was cleared off the line by a header from Paulo Nagamura. Two minutes later, Brad Davis found Ricardo Clark with a cross, and his header was saved by Sporting KC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.

The Dynamo continued to create chances late in the game. Two minutes after Clark's header, Andre Driver cracked a volley from the side of the penalty area that nearly found the far-side netting, but missed the far post by a yard. Finally, in stoppage time, Brian Ching directed a header to Will Bruin, who used a nimble touch to find Davis, but his shot from eight yards was saved by Nielsen.

It is only the second time in 11 games this season the Dynamo were shut out.

It was Sporting KC's first win in Houston since April 8, 2006, the first-ever meeting between the clubs. Sporting KC was 0-5-3 in its last eight games in Houston, including playoffs, before Sunday's win.

It was only the 18th regular season home loss in 116 home games in Dynamo history. Houston is now 65-18-33 all-time at home.

Bruin surpassed 5,000 minutes in his three-year MLS career with a 90-minute performance tonight.

It was Kofi Sarkodie's 25th career regular season start.

The Dynamo will stay in Houston to host the New England Revolution on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City will meet again on May 26 at Sporting Park in Kansas City.

Next Match: Saturday, May 18, 7:30 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. New England Revolution, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, TX
