Drive End Losing Skid with 10-6 Victory
May 10, 2013 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
It took eight games, but the Greenville Drive (11-23) were finally able to get back in the win column, as they rode an 11-hit offensive performance to a 10-6 win over the Augusta GreenJackets (19-14) on Friday night at Fluor Field.
After surrendering three unearned runs in the first, the Drive chipped back with a run in the bottom half off GreenJackets starter Kendry Flores (2-2), as Betts led the frame off with a double and scored on Drew Turocy's RBI single to center.
Betts extended his current hitting streak to six games with a big night at the plate, which featured four hits, including two doubles and a solo homer in the fifth, two RBIs and three runs scored.
During Betts' most recent hitting streak of six games, he is hitting .550 with two homers, five RBIs and six runs scored.
David Chester added some firepower of his own by smacking a 2-run homer for his team-leading sixth home run of the season. He also had a 2-run double in the 5th inning.
Third baseman Nick Moore would also offer support at the plate by smacking a solo shot off the light pole in right-center for his second home run of the year, while center fielder Cody Koback also added a triple and a single with one RBI.
The start by Drive starter Brian Johnson (1-1) was overshadowed by the offensive outburst, but he had a solid outing. After the 1st inning he only surrendered a single run in his final four innings, which was a solo home run by Jesus Galindo. Johnson hurled five innings while allowing just one earned run and two walks while striking out three.
Turocy extended his hit streak to six games with singles in the first and seventh innings.
First baseman Boss Moanaroa had to leave the game in the 6th inning after being hit in the arm by a pitch and was replaced by Dreily Guerrero.
The Drive will try to make it two wins in a row on Saturday night at Fluor Field. First pitch is at 7:05 PM. RHP Francellis Montas (1-4, 6.23) gets the start for the Drive, and he is up against GreenJackets RHP Joe Biagini (1-0, 5.57).
