Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - After building an early 5-1 advantage, the Quakes let one get away as they allowed nine unanswered runs and fell, 10-5, to the Inland Empire 66ers in the series finale on Thursday night at LoanMart Field.

A two-run triple from Alex Yarbrough highlighted a four-run Inland Empire eighth inning, spelling the end for Owen Jones and the Quakes.

Jones (L, 0-1) allowed his first three earned runs (four total) of the season in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

66ers catcher Zach Wright added a two-run bomb in the top of the ninth for insurance and the Quakes could not respond in the bottom half of the frame.

The Quakes were beneficiaries of four Inland Empire errors in the bottom of the first inning, leading to a 3-1 advantage for Rancho. The four errors came before the first out of the inning and put 66ers starter Danny Reynolds in an early hole. Reynolds (W, 4-2) settled down and allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits in his seven innings of work.

Inland Empire pitchers held the Quakes hitless over the final 7 2/3 innings of the game and retired 22 of the final 24 Quakes batters.

Scott Wingo got in on the fun in the bottom of the second inning when he launched a fastball over the right field wall for his first home run of the season. The solo shot pushed the Quakes' lead to 5-1.

Garrett Gould was effective for the second consecutive outing, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks with five strikeouts in the no-decision.

The loss marked the first series-loss at home for the Quakes in 2013 and the first back-to-back losses at LoanMart Field.

Sitting even in the standings at 17-17 in the standings, the Quakes now head to Lake Elsinore for a four-game set with the Storm. In the series opener on Friday, Dodgers' star Zack Greinke is scheduled to make a rehab start with the Quakes, his first since fracturing his left collarbone on April 11th. Greinke will be facing a Lake Elsinore squad led by right-hander John Hussey, making his first start for the Storm this season.

Following the four-game series with the Storm, the Quakes will have a day of rest before they return to LoanMart Field for a quartet with the San Jose Giants on Wednesday, May 15th. Gates open at 6:05 p.m. and game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com . We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
