Mississippi Braves News Release
Montgomery, AL - On the heels of Tuesday's record setting night, the Mississippi Braves couldn't post an encore performance as they fell to the Montgomery Biscuits 8-4 Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
JR Graham (1-3) suffered the loss for the Braves (20-12), allowing five runs on eight hits over five innings. Matt Buschmann (3-1) picked up the win for Montgomery (18-14), allowing three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts in seven frames.
The Braves jumped first in the second inning when Christian Marrero doubled on the first pitch of the inning, his league-leading 11th of the season. He moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a Jose Martinez sacrifice fly to deep center.
The Biscuits came right back an inning later, notching a three-spot in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Riccio Torrez singled to lead off the inning and was forced out at second on a ground by Mark Thomas. Shawn O'Malley tripled to tie the game and scored on a Kevin Kiermaier single to take a 2-1 lead that they never relinquished. Cameron Seitzer doubled in Kiermaier to make it 3-1.
In the top of the fourth, Kyle Russell stroked a solo home run off of Buschmann, his second of the season, to pull to within 3-2, but that's as close as the Braves got.
Montgomery pulled away again with two more in the fifth, ending Graham's day after five. Then in the sixth, Robby Price hit a bases-clearing double off of Erik Hamren with two outs to extend the lead to 8-3.
Mississippi had an opportunity in the eighth after loading the bases with one out, but they managed just one run on a Jose Martinez infield single.
The Braves have now lost just four of their last 21 games and look to get back to their winning ways on Thursday night at 7:05 PM CT. Left-hander Alex Wood (1-1, 0.58) toes the rubber for the Braves against right-hander Merrill Kelly (2-2, 3.48). Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:30 PM CT with the "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at Mississippi Braves.com.
