Rochester Red Wings News Release

Rochester Red Wings (13-19) @ Toledo Mud Hens (9-24)

Fifth Third Field - Toledo, OH - 6:30 p.m.

RHP Kyle Gibson (1-4, 4.26) vs. LHP Ramon Garcia (0-2, 4.91)

TODAY'S GAME: After outlasting the Mud Hens, 8-7, in a 16-inning marathon on Tuesday, the Wings will look to win 2 games in a row for the first time since a 4-game win streak 4/24-4/27 in game 3 of their 4-game series against Toledo (Tigers) tonight at 6:30 p.m. from Fifth Third Field in Toledo, OH. Previously, the Wings split a 4-game set against the Columbus Clippers and are now 3-3 so far on their 8-game Western Division road trip... Since their season-high winning streak April 24-27, the Wings are 4-5 in the last 9 games and currently sit in 5th place in the North -- 8.0 games back of Buffalo... Meanwhile, Toledo owns the worst record in the IL at 9-24 and are 13.0 games behind Indianapolis in the West.

MORE FROM LAST NIGHT...:

-The 16-inning, 5-hour, 17 minute marathon was the longest Wings game since 8/5/12 @ TOL (19 inn, 6:32)

-Ray Olmedo became the 2nd Wings player this season with 3 doubles (Brian Dinkelman 4/25 @ SYR)

-The Wings recorded a season-high 7 doubles and 8 extra-base hits extending their season-long streak of recording at least one extra-base hit to 16 games... Still, their 47 doubles on the year rank T-12 in the IL

-Wings pitchers struck out a season-high 22 hitters -- including 8 from P.J. Walters (most by a Wings starter this season) and 4 from Shairon Martis (T-most by a Wings reliever this season)

WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:

-Will win 2 straight games for the first time since a season-long 4-game win streak 4/24-27.

-Will guarantee at least a split of the series and road trip, meaning the Wings will have not lost a series since dropping 3 of 4 to Scranton/WB from 4/15-18 -- a span of 5 series.

VS. THE MUD HENS: The Red Wings swept the 2012 season series from Toledo winning all 8 games -- it is believed to be the first season series sweep against any opponent in franchise history and the first in the IL since Pawtucket went 8-0 against Richmond in 2006... Rochester earned the sweep last year outlasting the Mud Hens 10-9 in a 19-inning affair in the last game between the teams in 2012 on August 5. The game was the 3rd regular season contest in the IL that lasted 19 innings or more since 1985... Despite the sweep, Rochester is still just 39-43 against Toledo and 21-21 at Fifth Third Field since the beginning of the 2003.

GIBSON GETS THE BALL: RHP Kyle Gibson takes the ball for the Wings tonight looking to bounce back from a rough outing in Columbus where he allowed 5 runs on a career-high 11 hits in 4.2 innings. However, in his previous start he tossed 6.2 scoreless innings for the first time since 5/15/10 with New Britain... In his 3 prior starts before his outing in Columbus on Friday, Gibson had posted a 2.04 ERA (4 ER/17.2 IP)

HOT WING: 1B Chris Colabello extended his hit streak to a tied for team-high 9 games on Tuesday with his 16th inning, two-run home run... Over his hitting streak, Colabello is batting .375 (15-for-40) with 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 8 runs scored and 3 RBI. On the road trip, Colabello is now 11-for-27 (.407) with 6 runs, 3 doubles and 2 home runs.

-Colabello has now hit 3 game-winning home runs this season in the 7th inning or later (4/9 @ SWB, 4/20 vs PAW & 5/7 @ TOL)

-He currently ranks T-1st in the IL in HR (8), 2nd in total bases (72), T-3rd in RBI (22) & 4th in hits (40)

THE RIGHT ROTATION: After another quality start from P.J. Walters - his 4th straight - followed 6.1 scoreless innings from Andrew Albers on Monday, the Wings rotation's season ERA has dipped to a season-low 3.82. Over the last 11 games, the starters have turned in 8 "quality starts" and posted a 2.88 ERA (21 ER/65.2 IP)... Wings starters had posted just 2 quality starts over the first 21 games of the season.

GETTING DEFENSIVE: Despite 2 errors last night by first baseman Chris Colabello, the Wings remain one of the best defensive teams in the International League. Rochester has committed just 21 errors this season -- tied for 2nd least in the IL -- and lead the circuit with a .983 fielding percentage. Leading the way has been the infield combination of SS Doug Bernier (.992) and 2B Eric Farris (.989) who both lead their respective positions in fielding percentage. The duo has combined to commit just 2 errors in 219 total chances. Wings catchers Eric Fryer and Chris Herrmann have teamed up to throw out 38% (11-for-29) of potential base stealers -- a mark that ranks 2nd in the league.
