Mississippi Braves News Release

Montgomery, AL - More than 48 hours off did nothing to squelch the Mississippi Braves' recent hot streak as they rattled off a team-record for runs en route to a 19-2 win over the Montgomery Biscuits Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Tommy La Stella led the way at the plate in a spectacular double-A debut, rapping a triple and two doubles to tie the team record for extra base hits in a game, most recently accomplished by Tyler Pastornicky on July 5, 2011 when he hit for the cycle. La Stella drove in five on the night, just a day removed from his call-up from high-A Lynchburg.

The Braves (20-11) started the scoring in the second. Edward Salcedo, Kyle Russell and Braeden Schlehuber singled off Biscuits starter Jake Thompson to start the inning, and Jaime Pedroza hit a grand slam, his first homer of the season.

After the Biscuits got a run back in the bottom of the second, the Braves grew their lead to 6-1 in the third on a Schlehuber two-out, two-run double. Schlehuber finished with three hits on the night.

An inning later, it was La Stella who came through, ripping a two-run triple for his first double-A hit, making it 8-1 Braves.

That ended the day for Thompson (2-3), who suffered the loss for the Biscuits (17-14) allowing eight runs on nine hits in four frames. Cody Martin (1-1) earned his first double-A win, allowing two runs on six hits in five innings.

The Braves didn't stop scoring until the last out was made. They posted three more in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI double by Phil Gosselin and a two-run error by left fielder Kyeong Kang. Then in the eighth, leading 11-2, Mississippi plated eight runs, falling one shy of the team record for runs in an inning and breaking the runs in a game record.

The previous record for runs in a game was 17, set on June 17, 2010 in a win against the Carolina Mudcats.

With the win, the M-Braves have won 17 of their last 20 contests.

They look to continue their momentum on Wednesday in game two of the series at 7:05 PM CT. JR Graham (1-2, 3.45) takes the hill for the Braves against right-hander Matt Buschmann (3-1, 2.94). Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:30 PM CT with the "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at Mississippi Braves.com.
