Youth Update: Oakwood SC

May 6, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) New England Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Last weekend, all three of the New England Revolution's youth teams were on the road, meeting Oakwood SC in Portland, Conn., on Saturday, May 4. Overall, the teams were unbeaten with a combined 2-0-1 record as the Under-18s and Under-14s earned 4-3 and 1-0 victories, respectively, while the Under-16s played to a scoreless draw.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s earned a 4-3 victory against Oakwood SC on Saturday. Matt Nyeayea (Worcester, Mass.) put the Revs ahead in the 20th minute, assisted by Leandro Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.). Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) then doubled New England's advantage, scoring a 22nd-minute goal in his U18 debut. Oakwood answered with a comeback effort, scoring goals in the 34th, 70th and 80th minutes. In the 85th minute, Oakwood attempted to clear the ball, but it instead deflected off the chest of Freddie Ferre (Waltham, Mass.) and into the back of the net to equalize at 3-3. The Revs dug deep in the final minutes of the match, producing some late-game heroics. Alves - assisted by Wes Turner (Newton, Mass.) - curled a right-footed shot in for the Revs' go-ahead goal in the 89th minute, securing three points for the Revolution. Now 12-4-2 (38 pts.), the U18s are ranked second in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's East Conference with 2.11 points per game.

U14 Matt Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) entered the game as a second-half substitute and Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.) also earned the call-up, but remained on the bench. With their 9-3-6 (33 pts.) record, the U16s are currently third in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's East Conference with 1.83 points per game.
