Jenkins, Chiefs Shutout TinCaps on Sunday

Peoria, IL- As the first 1500 fans through the gates received a player poster featuring his likeness, Tyrell Jenkins pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Peoria Chiefs over the Fort Wayne TinCaps 1-0 on Sunday. With the win the Chiefs (13-12) moved above .500 for the first time since April 27 and go for the sweep on Monday night.
Fort Wayne collected two singles against Jenkins in the first three batters but failed to score in the top of the first. The Chiefs right-hander kicked it into gear from there retiring 21 of the next 22 batters. The only exception was a leadoff walk in the third to Felix Cabrera but he only got as far as second base after a strikeout and two grounders.
After struggling to manufacture any offense in the first four frames, the Chiefs broke through against Ruben Mejia in the fifth. Michael Swinson doubled to left field, his second hit of the game. After Casey Rasmus walked, Nick Martini singled to right field plating Swinson. The run broke the scoreless tie putting the Chiefs up 1-0 after five innings.
Jenkins (1-2) shut down the TinCaps the rest of the way, allowing no runs on three hits and five strikeouts in the complete game shutout. It was the longest outing of his career and the first time he has lasted past six innings. Jenkins's complete game was the first of the year for the Chiefs and the last since Austin Kirk completed the feat on July 4th, 2011.
