Series Evened by Clinton Despite Two-Hit Game by Maile

May 5, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Clinton, IA - Luke Maile's fifth multi-hit outing in his last six games was not enough for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (19-10) in a 5-2 loss to the Clinton LumberKings (13-14) at Ashford University Field on Sunday. Maile also scored on a single by Marty Gantt for an early lead the Hot Rods could not protect. The three-game series between Bowling Green and Clinton will now be decided in Monday's series finale at 12:30 PM CDT.

Maile recorded singles in his first two plate appearances, including a base hit to right field with one out in the fourth inning. Maile advanced to second on a wild pitch and reached third on a Patrick Leonard groundout. Gantt hit the first pitch he saw from LHP Scott DeCecco into left field to score Maile and put Bowling Green on the board at 1-0.

Clinton took the lead in the fifth on a two-run home run by Jabari Henry. After a Hot Rods double play, Ketel Marte singled to keep the inning alive for Henry. With two outs and a full-count delivery coming from RHP Taylor Guerrieri, Henry drove the pivotal pitch over the fence in left-center field for the go-ahead score.

The LumberKings added three more runs late in the sixth inning. LHP Jose Molina induced two outs after a leadoff hit by Guillermo Pimentel. However, Marcus Littlewood singled and Jordy Lara followed with a double that brought in Pimentel and Littlewood. Lara scored two pitches later on a double from Taylor Ard, making the score 5-1 in favor of Clinton.

Bowling Green added an unearned run in the final frame in a comeback attempt. Leonardo Reginatto bounced a two-out single over RHP Oliver Garcia and took second base on defensive indifference. Joey Rickard lined a ground ball to third base that Lara could not come up with, allowing Reginatto to come in. Granden Goetzman could not extend the contest further after his ground ball allowed the LumberKings to put out Rickard at second base and end the game.

The Hot Rods will finish the series and their six-game road trip with a Monday matinee at 12:30 PM CDT in Clinton. Bowling Green RHP Jeff Ames (3-0, 1.80) will pitch against Clinton RHP Victor Sanchez (0-0, 2.25). Monday's radio broadcast will begin at noon with Chris Kleinhans-Schulz hosting the Forever Communications Pregame Show. Tune in to contest on 1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM, 1340WBGN.com, and BGHotRods.com.
