Beeler Strong Again as Smokies Blank Braves

PEARL, MS . - Dallas Beeler carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Tennessee Smokies evened up their series with a 7-0 victory over the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park. The win marked the first nine-inning shutout for the Smokies this season

Beeler (3-2) had his no-hit bid broken up in the 6th inning when Braeden Schlehuber led off with a double down the left field line. He allowed just the one hit in 6.2 scoreless frames for his third straight victory. The Smokies righty has now tossed 14.2 straight scoreless innings

The Smokies scored three runs in the top of the 4th inning, their first runs of the series. With Ronald Torreyes at third, Christian Villanueva drove him in with an RBI single for a 1-0 Smokies lead. Villanueva came across with the Smokies second run after a single by Johermyn Chavez and an error by centerfielder Dan Brewer. Jonathan Mota made it 3-0 with a bases loaded RBI single that plated Rubi Silva.

Rafael Lopez connected with his first home run of the season in the top of the 8th inning, a solo shot, to extend the lead to 4-0.

Tennessee broke it open with three more runs in the 9th inning. After Mota brought in Silva with a sacrifice fly, Ty Wright delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double to up the lead to 7-0.

J.R. Graham (1-2) suffered the loss for Mississippi allowing three earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 5.1 innings.

The Smokies and Braves will continue their five-game series tomorrow night at 8:00 ET when Tennessee sends right-hander Alberto Cabrera (3-1, 3.99) to the mound against Mississippi lefty Alex Wood (0-1, 0.82) at Trustmark Park.
