Tampa Bay owns a 6-1-1 mark (W-T-L) against FC Edmonton over the last two seasons, including victories in six consecutive meetings. The teams met four times in 2012, with the Rowdies posting a 1-0 victory in both home games at Al Lang Stadium on April 14 and July 28. Tampa Bay also defeated Edmonton 1-0 and 3-0 in both visits to Clarke Stadium.
The Rowdies defeated FC Edmonton 3-0 in their last meeting of the 2012 NASL Season on September 16 at Clarke Stadium. Forward Daniel Antoniuk opened the scoring in the first half, while Mike Ambersley and Luke Mulholland scored the remaining goals in the Rowdies victory over the Eddies.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies climbed to the top of the table last Saturday night in Ft. Lauderdale, thanks to a 2-1 victory over their in-state rivals Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. Goals from midfielders Luke Mulholland and Alex Dixon put the Rowdies up by two, but the home team would slash the lead to just one after a late goal by midfielder Walter Restrepo. With this win,the Rowdies are unbeaten in 12 of the last 13 meetings between both clubs, with the reigning NASL Champions holding an 8-4-1 (W-T-L) record over the Strikers.
Mulholland has now picked up at least one point in each of the last three matches, including three goals and two assists. He is tied for both the most goals and assists in the league, while leading the NASL with 11 shots this season. Alongside the midfielder, Georgi Hristov is also tied for first in the league with two assists. Hristov is coming off a positive match, where he set up the game-winning goal with a great low cross to Dixon. The player on loan from the Houston Dynamo scored his first goal with the Rowdies, and his second-half appearance boosted the Rowdies counter-attacks with his speed and agility. Mulholland and Hristov joined Captain Frankie Sanfilippo in the NASL Team of the Week after the 2-1 victory over the Strikers.
A goalkeeping change for last Saturday's match brought Diego Restrepo his first start since his arrival to the Rowdies. The goalkeeper made four saves, and is now tied for third in the league with a goals against average of 1.00.
Scouting FC Edmonton:
The Eddies began this year with a new head coach, as Colin Miller stepped in for Harry Sinkgraven. Miller is also serving as the current Head Coach for the Canadian men's national team.
Edmonton had begun the 2013 season with 1-1 draw at Lockhart Stadium, while following up with back-to-back losses against Carolina and Minnesota. In their fourth match, Edmonton picked up their first win of the season after Shaun Saiko drilled home a penalty kick to defeat San Antonio 1-0. The midfielder received the NASL Player of the Week for his performance against the Scorpions last Sunday at Clarke Stadium.
Rowdies Head Coach Ricky Hill
"Edmonton is coming off a win last week and they will surely try to cary that momentum into Saturday night. Head Coach Colin Miller is in his first season and his arrival has brought a fresh attitude and determination to the group. We're hoping to register our first home league victory of the season on Saturday night."
Tampa Bay will have a bye week, before traveling to play newly-branded Minnesota Untied FC on Saturday, May 18 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
The Rowdies will then host Minnesota on Saturday, May 25 at Al Lang Stadium. For information on2013 season ticketsorindividual tickets contact the front office email@example.com.
