Clinton LumberKings News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - Backed by another solid performance on the mound, the LumberKings evened the series against the TinCaps with a 6-2 win on Monday night at Parkview Field. A day after starter Dylan Unsworth went nine innings for Clinton, it was lefty Scott DeCecco who went eight on Monday night to get the win.

The LumberKings got some assistance from Fort Wayne starter Ruben Mejia in the first inning. Jabari Henry walked and Brock Hebert singled to get things rolling. Two batters later Dario Pizzano was up with runners at the corners when Mejia balked resulting in an early 1-0 lead for Clinton.

They widened the gap with a four-run third inning. Hebert and Henry started the rally once again with back-to-back hits. Henry's soft single to right brought in Hebert for a 2-0 lead. Gaby Guerrero added a sac fly and Tyler Marlette hit a booming two-run double to the gap in right-center to make it 5-0. Marlette is now 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position on the season.

DeCecco was cruising with the early lead. He got double play ground balls in the first and second inning and picked off Brian Adams in the third. He retired nine straight before Alberth Martinez hit a solo homer off him with two outs in the eighth inning to make it 5-2.

Hebert and Henry were at it again in the top of the ninth inning as Hebert doubled down the left-field line with one out. He stole third, his second steal of the game, and then scored on a sac fly from Henry to build the lead to 6-2. Rusty Shellhorn worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth with a pair of strikeouts to close out the game.

The LumberKings look for the series win on Tuesday morning. They send right-hander Victor Sanchez to the mound against right-hander Walker Weickel for the TinCaps in the finale. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 AM ET.
