LA Galaxy News Release

SANDY, Utah- A day after beating them 2-0 in an MLS regular season game, the LA Galaxy lost 1-0 to Real Salt Lake in an MLS Reserve League game at the American First Field, RSL's official training site.

Salt Lake's Sebastian Velasquez scored the game-winning in the 75th minute, finishing off a pass from midfielder John Stertzer. Stertzer started the sequence that led to the Velasquez goal by forcing a turnover in the center of the park and quickly playing a through ball up the middle of the field to Velasquez, who was adjudged to be onside before using his left foot to round and beat goalkeeper Brian Perk for the game's only goal.

Perk, in his first game back since undergoing sports hernia surgery on March 16, had six saves, with most coming in the second half as RSL increased their pressure. A few Perk's saves looked destined to end up in the back of the net, if not for his reaction speed and athleticism.

The Galaxy held Salt Lake to just one shot on goal in the first half, but allowed six in the second half as legs began to get heavy and the higher elevation started to affect the visitors. At the other end of the field, the Galaxy managed just three shots in the 90 minutes, though none were on goal.

The match was a chippy affair that featured 23 fouls and five yellow cards. Referee Hamed Sadeghi issued four yellow cards to Real Salt Lake, who were whistled for 12 fouls. The Galaxy's lone entry in the booking report was midfielder Rafael Garcia, who was show the yellow card in the 63rd minute.

The Galaxy's next reserve league match is at The Home Depot Center against the LA Blues on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m.
