Red Wings Post-Game Notes

April 28, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

GAME NOTES:

-TURNING POINT: Joe Benson's dropped fly ball in the 5th inning led to 2 unearned runs in the inning as the Bisons took a 5-1 lead and hung on to snap the Red Wings season-high 4-game winning streak... KEY MOMENT: Although plating a pair, the Red Wings left the bases loaded in the 6th inning... Rochester went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.

-Clete Thomas extended his hitting streak to 5 games with a first inning single... The Wings outfielder is now hitting 8-for-18 (.444) over the 5-game streak... Thomas had missed the previous 4 games with a sore neck.

-Evan Bigley went 3-for-4 with a double on Sunday to raise his average to .394 on the year with Rochester. Bigley has 4 multi-hit efforts in his first 11 games with the Wings this season since his April 17 promotion... Only Chris Colabello (6) and Clete Thomas (5) have more multi-hit games this year for Rochester.

-After allowing 5 runs (3 earned) in 5 innings, Liam Hendriks has now gone 5 straight starts (2 w/ MIN & 3 w/ ROC) to open the season without registering a "quality start"... That is his longest stretch of "non-quality" starts for Hendriks since the start of the 2010 season... The last time he went 3 straight minor league starts without a "quality start" was 6/26-9/1/10 with Ft. Myers.

-Daniel Turpen turned in his best outing of the season, working a season-high 2 scoreless innings of relief with 4 strikeouts... Turpen, who had a 9.58 ERA after his outing on 4/23 has lowered it 2.5 runs (7.07) by tossing 3.2 scoreless innings over his last 2 games.

-The Wings recorded a pair of extra-base hits - doubles by Bigley and Colabello - to extend their season-long streak of collecting at least one extra-base hit to 8 games.
