Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.. - Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Michael Taylor hit a two-run home run to tie the game then, two batters later, Luke Montz hit a go-ahead solo shot to give the River Cats the 6-5 win on Saturday night at Raley Field.
Salt Lake got out to an early lead, scoring twice in the top of the first. The lead didn't last long, however, as the River Cats scored two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning when, after a double-steal from Yoenis Céspedes and Grant Green, Michael Choice delivered a two-run single.
Salt Lake took the lead again in the top of the second and held it until Taylor came to the plate in the bottom of the eighth, down 5-3. Shane Peterson led off the inning with a double, allowing Taylor to step up to the plate and drive the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to tie the game at five. After Daric Barton flew out to right field, Montz put his team ahead with a solo home run to left. River Cats reliever Hideki Okajima came on in the ninth and struck out the side in order to close out his team's 6-5 win.
Céspedes finished 0-for-2 with a walk, a run and a steal in his third rehab appearance of the season with Sacramento. Choice and Taylor each drove in two runs, while Green finished 1-for-3 with two runs and two steals.
River Cats righty Evan Scribner tossed 2.1 perfect innings for the win, while Okajima notched his first save of the year. Travis Banwart started and took a no-decision, giving up four earned runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings of work. The loss went to Salt Lake right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier, who gave up three earned in one inning pitched.
The River Cats look for the series sweep at 1:05 p.m. on U.S. Bank Sunday Funday at Raley Field as Sacramento righty Dan Straily (3-0, 0.96 ERA) takes on Bees right-hander Matt Shoemaker (1-3, 3.46 ERA).
