Shorebirds Cruise Past Drive, 10-3

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (12-10) scored three runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-3 win over the Greenville Drive (8-14) on Friday night at Flour Field. The ten runs scored are a season high for the Shorebirds. The Shorebirds snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.

The Shorebirds used a two out rally in the first inning to build a 3-0 lead. Joel Hutter drew a two out walk. Christian Walker extended his on-base streak to 20 games with a single to right to send Hutter to third. Then, Creede Simpson hit a high chopper up the middle to score Hutter. Later in the inning, Torsten Boss hit a soft line drive to left-center field to score two and stretch the lead to 3-0.

In the second inning, Gregory Lorenzo connected on a solo homer to right field, his first of the season and fourth of his career.

The Shorebirds added to the lead on a long home run to right field by Boss in the fourth inning. Boss has a home run in two straight games.

In the fifth inning, the Shorebirds tacked on a run to build a 6-0 lead. Hutter drew a lead off walk, his second of the day. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single to center by Walker and an error on the throw back to the infield by Cody Koback.

Greenville got on the board in the fifth inning. Dreily Guerrero reached on a one out error by Hutter. After two singles advanced him to third, Guerrero scored on a third strike passed ball charged to Chase Weems.

The Drive inched within three runs with two runs in the seventh. Boss Moanaroa doubled home Cody Koback. Later in the inning, two errors by the Shorebirds middle infield contributed to a second run.

The Shorebirds put the game out of reach in the eighth inning with three runs. Weems hit an RBI single to left-center field to score Boss, who led off the inning with a walk. Adrian Marin lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Weems. Lorenzo hit a ground rule double to right field and scored on an error by the Drive third baseman Guerrero.

Weems drove in the tenth run of the night in the ninth inning.

Matt Hobgood earned the win in 1.2 innings of relief. He yielded three hits and two runs.

Shorebirds starter Josh Hader lasted 4.2 innings and gave up three hits and one unearned run.

Tommy Winegardner and Jose Nivar did not allow a hit over the final 2.2 innings.

Lorenzo (3-for-6), Walker (2-for-4), Boss (2-for-2) and Weems (2-for-5) led the 12-hit Shorebirds offensive attack.

The Shorebirds and Drive play game two of series on Saturday, April 27 at 7:05pm. RHP Brady Wager is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
