Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA - It has been almost three weeks since the Rawhide last lost at home. Visalia stayed hot on Thursday night at Rawhide Ballpark, shutting down the Stockton Ports 3-1 to win their seventh straight game and complete their second straight series sweep.

Andrew Chafin (3-1) tossed 6.0 scoreless innings on just three hits, striking out five and walking just one. He demonstrated very good control and was able to mix speeds and use his repetoire effeciently.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Rawhide were able to get on the board first for the third consecutive game. After Gerson Montilla took a two-out walk from Drew Granier (2-2), Gomez kept his on-base streak alive with an RBI-double to center field to give the Rawhide a 1-0 lead. With the hit, Gomez has now reached base at least once in 20 consecutive games.

After Yazy Arbelo walked, Michael Perez grounded a single to right field to plate Gomez and extend the Rawhide lead to 2-0.

Blake Cooper contributed a scoreless 7th inning of relief. However, B.A. Vollmuth finally got Stockton on the board in the top of the 8th inning when he crushed a leadoff homer to deep left center field off of Kaleb Fleck, cutting the Rawhide lead in half to 2-1.

The Rawhide would get that run back in the bottom of the frame, courtesy of an RBI-double to left field from Matt Helm, plating Tom Belza to make it 3-1.

Jake Barrett was summoned in the 9th and shut down the Ports, nullifying the leadoff walk and securing the 3-1 win and sweep of the Ports. It was Barrett's fifth save of the season and he remains perfect in save opportunites. With the win, the Rawhide have now won seven straight overall and 10 straight at home. The Rawhide also overtake the Ports in the standings, claiming sole possession of second place in the division.

The Rawhide head to Bakersfield tomorrow for the start of a three game series before heading back to Rawhide Ballpark for the start of a three game homestand against the Modesto Nuts on Tuesday.
