Frisco RoughRiders News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (APRIL 24, 2013) - A ninth inning rally fell just short for the RoughRiders in San Antonio Wednesday night, as Frisco fell 5-3 at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. Frisco didn't allow a hit after the third, but the Missions five-run third inning proved too big a deficit to overcome.

The RoughRiders had a baserunner in seven of the nine innings, but scored too little and too late. One of their best chances came in the top of the third; with one out, Ryan Strausborger and Guilder Rodriguez slapped singles, and then both runners got into scoring position on a double steal. Odubel Herrera struck out and Hanser Alberto grounded out to end the frame.

After escaping that threat unscathed, the Missions bats got after Frisco starter Kevin Pucetas. He struck out Chris Bisson to start the third, but after hitting Justin Miller, Pucetas allowed five straight hits. Jake Blackwood followed up four consecutive singles with a three-run home run. In the Missions' big frame, Pucetas gave up five runs on five hits, and after three innings, San Antonio led 5-0.

Pucetas settled in, and Jake Brigham impressed in relief. The rest of the way, the two combined for 5.1 scoreless innings. San Antonio picked up no hits against them and reached base just three times on two walks and a hit batsman. The duo struck out six during that span as well.

Frisco stranded a runner in four of the five innings beginning with the fourth and ending with the eighth. Down 5-0, Kevin Quackenbush came back for his second inning of work, and Frisco was able to end the shutout-bid in the ninth inning. Brett Nicholas led things off with his fourth homer of the season, battling in an eight-pitch at bat to send a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall to make it 5-1 San Antonio.

Quackenbush committed consecutive fielding errors and allowed a single in between strikeouts to end his night. With two outs, 'Riders had the bases loaded and the tying run on deck, and the Missions went back to the bullpen. Jeremy McBryde came on to face Odubel Herrera. Herrera pulled a ball on the ground to right field to bring home two and cut the lead to 5-3 with a two-run single. With the tying run aboard, Alberto popped out to second base to end the rally and the game.

Pucetas (2-2) suffered the defeat, while Andriese (3-0) netted his third win of the year. Facing just two batters, McBryde collected his first save of the season.

The RoughRiders finish up in San Antonio Thursday before returning home. Carlos Pimentel (2-1, 3.00 ERA) goes for Frisco against San Antonio right-hander and former RoughRiders pitcher Wilfredo Boscan (0-1, 5.84 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 6:40.

Frisco will return to Dr Pepper Ballpark Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. when they host Corpus Christi. For information on tickets to see the RoughRiders in 2013, please call (972) 731-9200, email info@ridersbaseball.com or visit www.ridersbaseball.com.
