Missions Drop Series with 3-1 Loss

San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio's offensive struggles continued in a 3-1 loss to Midland Sunday afternoon at Wolff Stadium. The Missions, who dropped three-of-four to the RockHounds, managed just six hits in the finale.

Donn Roach got the ball for the Missions, seeking his third win of the season, but it was not his day. The right-hander ran into immediate trouble in the first when Chad Oberacker ripped his first pitch into right field for a double. After D'Arby Myers worked a walk, Anthony Aliotti drove home the game's first run with a single to right-center field.

The RockHounds upped their lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a two-out, RBI single by shortstop Darwin Perez, who ended the inning when he tried to advance to second on Reymond Fuentes' throw home.

Midland got to Roach (2-2) again the following inning with another two-out, RBI single, this time off the bat of right fielder Jake Goebbert.

The RockHounds collected 10 of their 12 hits off Roach, which tied a career high for most hits allowed in a start for the Missions' ace.

San Antonio's bullpen combo of Jeremy McBryde, Colt Hynes, Matt Stites and Kevin Quackenbush kept their team in the game with four scoreless innings of two-hit ball.

However, the Missions' offense could not solve 'Hounds starter Zach Neal, who allowed just five hits in seven shutout frames. San Antonio's best scoring chance against the Midland starter came in the third when second baseman Chris Bisson led off with a double, then moved to third on Rocky Gale's groundout. Unfortunately for the Missions, Neal (1-0) struck out both Fuentes and Rico Noel to escape trouble.

The Missions avoided the shutout in the ninth when Justin Miller scored on a Kyler Newby wild pitch, the third wild pitch of the inning uncorked by the 'Hounds pen. Newby did not allow the Missions to get any closer, though, striking out A.J. Kirby-Jones to end the game and earn his third save of the series.

San Antonio resumes their eight-game homestand tomorrow night at 7:05 PM with the first-of-four with the Frisco RoughRiders. Left-hander Jose De Paula (0-2, 2.35) will try to get the Missions back on track, while the 'Riders will counter with right-hander Cody Buckel (0-2, 13.50).

Notes: The Missions scored one run in all three of their losses in the Midland series. They have scored just one run in half of their 16 games. In 2012, San Antonio scored one run in a game 21 times. Bisson's double in the third was the Missions' first extra-base hit since Thursday night's game. Their previous 22 hits were all singles.
