Pirates Wrap Regular Season Schedule with Trip to Bridgeport

Portland, ME - The playoff bound Portland Pirates will look to cap of their regular season on a high note when they face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Webster Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 3 PM for the 3rd matchup between the Sound Tigers and the Pirates this week. Portland has not lost during the season series, putting together a 5-0 record that includes two overtime victories The Pirates will look to extend their 3 game winning streak while improving their playoff seeding. Portland defeated Connecticut last night by a 5-1 score at the Cumberland County Civic Center for their regular season home finale. Phil Lane registered the first home hat trick for the Pirates since 2011, and the first of his career, while Troy Bodie and Andy Miele supplied the other two Pirates goals. Miele's goal, along with 2 assists, gave him 53 points on the year, one behind his mark from last year, while Chris Brown added an assist to extend his scoring streak to 3 games. Mike Lee was stellar in net, stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced for his 9th victory of the season.

The Sound Tigers were shut out by the Providence Bruins last night by a 3-0 score, extending their winless streak to 3 games. Anders Nilsson allowed 2 goals on 29 shots in net for Bridgeport in the loss.

The last time these two teams met was Friday, in a contest that saw Chris Brown score twice to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 victory at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The win on Friday clinched a playoff spot for the Pirates and eliminated the Sound Tigers from playoff contention. The Pirates have outscored the sound tigers 8-5 this week and lead the season series 5-0.

The Pirates need one point this afternoon to clinch the 5th spot in the Eastern Conference, setting up an Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup against the Binghamton Senators. If Portland loses, the Pirates would face either the Syracuse Crunch, who they have not seen this season, or the Springfield Falcons in the first round, depending on the outcome of today's Syracuse-Binghamton matchup. Calder Cup Eastern Conference Quarterfinal tickets go on sale tomorrow, with at least one game in the first round to be played at the Cumberland County Civic Center! All Pirates home games during the playoffs will be place at the Civic Center.
