 San Antonio Missions

Missions Roll Past RockHounds 10-0

April 19, 2013 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio used a 13-hit attack to cruise past Midland 10-0 Friday night at Wolff Stadium, ending their season-high, three-game losing streak.

After scoring a total of three runs during their three-game slide, the Missions wasted no time taking out their frustration against Midland starter Carlos Hernandez. Rico Noel led off the bottom of the first with a walk, then moved to second on a bunt single by Reymond Fuentes. Hernandez (1-2) then struck out Justin Miller for the first out, but not before Noel and Fuentes successfully completed the Missions' second double steal in as many nights. Next batter, Tommy Medica, gave the Missions a 1-0 lead with a run-producing groundout.

Jake Blackwood kept the frame alive with an RBI single, making the score 2-0. After a Jeudy Valdez walk, first baseman A.J. Kirby-Jones capped the three-run first with an RBI single to right.

San Antonio pushed their lead to 5-0 in the fifth, courtesy of a two-out, two-run single to right by Blackwood, who finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a season-high, three RBI. It was Blackwood's first, four-hit game since June of 2012, which also came against Midland.

The Missions broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh with a five-run rally that featured three, consecutive bases-loaded walks surrendered by former Mission Mike DeMark.

Four different Missions recorded multi-hit efforts in the win, and only second base baseman Adam Buschini, failed to score a run.

The offense eruption was plenty for winning starter Matt Andriese, who needed just 63 pitches (45 strikes) to get through his five shutout innings. Andriese (2-0) allowed just three hits and one walk, while striking out five. In his last two starts, both wins, the right-hander has struck out 11, while walking just two.

The bullpen combo of Chris Rearick, Jeremy McBryde, Matt Stites and Kevin Quackenbush completed the Missions first shutout of 2013 with four innings of two-hit ball. It was the second straight night that the San Antonio bullpen has tossed four scoreless frames.

The Missions and RockHounds resume their four-game series Saturday night at Wolff Stadium, with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM. Wilfredo Boscan (0-0, 7.56 ERA) takes the ball for San Antonio, while Midland counters with right-hander Murphy Smith (1-2, 3.31 ERA).
