Barons Stumble against Lookouts, Fall 5-3

Birmingham, AL - The Barons fumbled away an early 3-0 lead Thursday night in Chattanooga, falling by a score of 5-3 in front of 4,335 fans at AT&T Park. The loss was the third in four games for the Barons in Chattanooga after coming into the series with a record of 7-3.

Dan Black gave the Barons an early 3-0 lead in the first on a mammoth three-run home run against Chattanooga starter Rob Rasmussen (1-2, 5.79). However, Chattanooga quickly answered with a two-run home run by Yasiel Puig in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Barons lead to one.

An Omar Luna RBI base hit in the fourth tied the game and the Lookouts grabbed the lead for good in the sixth on an RBI double by Blake Smith and a sacrifice fly by Chris Jacobs. The inning started with a three-base error on outfielder Trayce Thompson on a dropped fly ball. All five runs came against Barons starter Scott Snodgress (2-1, 4.24) who endured his first loss at the Double-A level allowing five hits and striking out five.

INF Marcus Semien finished 0-for-4, ending his team-high ten-game hitting streak. Black finished with two hits on the night and is hitting .300 on the season.

The Barons will look salvage the series finale tomorrow night as RHP Stephen McCray (1-1, 4.50) takes the hill against LHP Onelki Garcia (0-1, 3.52). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM CDT.
