Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - Baseball is a game built upon the art of storytelling. For some of the best high school baseball talent in NEPA, the personal tales they will carry for a lifetime will be woven at PNC Field. Today at a joint press conference, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) and PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) District II announced that all four of District II's baseball championship games this year will be held at PNC Field on Memorial Day, May 27. The A, AA, AAA and high school crowns will be bestowed at PNC Field, which recently re-opened to widespread acclaim after a $43 million reconstruction.
"On behalf of the PIAA District II committee and our member high schools, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rob Crain, Jeremy Ruby, the RailRiders and the New York Yankees' organization for their efforts and time in permitting our member schools to utilize this magnificent stadium," said District II chairman Frank Majikes. "We are extremely grateful and it will be a great experience for our coaches, student-athletes and fans on Memorial Day."
District II consists of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties, right in the RailRiders' backyard. The RailRiders have made a concerted effort to incorporate community-related activities at PNC Field as much as possible.
"We could not be more excited to see the best high school baseball in our area decide its champions right here at PNC Field," said Jeremy Ruby, executive vice president of operations for the RailRiders. "Events like these are why we work in sports. Community involvement is not merely a talking point for us as a franchise. It is a reality that we are still expanding every day."
The RailRiders return home for an eight-game homestand this Friday, April 19. Great ticket packages, group deals and single-game tickets are available. With no upper deck at PNC Field anymore, every seat in the ballpark provides the supreme views and intimacy that make minor league baseball so special at incredibly affordable prices.
