Meneses inside-the-park home run not enough as Dogs fall 7-2

(Binghamton, N.Y.) - The Portland Sea Dogs fell Tuesday night to the Binghamton Mets 7-3 at NYSEG Stadium. Portland concludes their six- game roadtrip on Wednesday night, and can finish with a winning trip.

Heiker Meneses had an inside-the-park home run in the second inning. It was Meneses' second home run of the year and the first inside-the-park home run for a Sea Dogs hitter since George Lombard's inside-the-park grand slam on June 24 th, 2004 at Erie. It was the sixth inside-the-park home run in franchise history and the second as a Red Sox affiliate.

Drake Britton (1-2) took the loss and threw five innings for Portland giving up three runs (all earned). He struck out seven, gave up six hits, and walked one. Logan Verrett (2-0) earned the win. He threw six and two thirds innings of two run ball.

Binghamton right-hander Logan Verrett (2-0) earned the win. He worked six and 2/3 innings on four hits and two runs. Jeff Walters pitched the final 1.1 innings for his third save of the year.

T he Sea Dogs got on the board in the top of the first inning. Tony Thomas' RBI double scored Xander Bogaerts to make it 1-0 Portland. Thomas has now knocked in a run in five straight games. Meneses' inside-the-park homer made it 2-0.

Binghamton would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Mets knocked in their first run in the home half of the fourth on a Cesar Puello RBI triple to right. Puello would later score on a Britton wild pitch. Francisco Pena hit an RBI double to put Binghamton in the lead 3-2.

Binghamton busted it open in the home half of the eighth. Corey Vaughn would put Binghamton in the lead 4-2 with an RBI single to left. Vaughn leads the Mets with nine RBIs. A Daniel Muno walk with the based loaded and a Pena sacrifice fly made the score 6-2 Binghamton. Alonzo Harris' RBI groundout put the Mets ahead 7-2.

Christian Vazquez drove in Portland's third and final run of the ballgame in the ninth.

There was a thirty-seven minute rain delay in the bottom of the 7 th inning

The Sea Dogs conclude their three-game series with the Binghamton Mets on Wednesday night from NYSEG Stadium. Righty Brandon Workman (2-0, 4.91) makes his third start of the season for Portland. Right-hander Tyler Pill (0-1, 9.00) takes the hill for the B-Mets.
