Reading Fightin Phils News Release

READING, Pa.---Reading Fightin Phils (6-5) hitters were shut down by Harrisburg Senators(7-5) starter Blake Treinen in a 4-0 loss Monday night at First Energy Stadium. It was the second time the Fightins were shut out this season with the first coming against New Hampshire on Opening Day.

After second baseman Albert Cartwright singled from the leadoff position in the first inning, Treinen mowed through the next 12 Reading batters before surrendering a single to Tyler Henson in the fifth inning. Through the first five innings, the former Oakland prospect faced the minimum 15 batters.

Fightins hitters scattered two more hits off Treinen, both doubles, before he exited the game after the seventh inning. The 24-year old walked none and struck out four batters in his seven innings of work to pick up his first winning decision of the season.

The two hits yielded by Treinen would be the last hits Reading would record on Monday. Aside from a Derrick Mitchell walk, Harrisburg relievers Neil Holland and Pat Lehman each struck out three batters to close out the game for the Senators.

Fightins starter David Buchanan gave up four runs, two earned, on seven hits and one walk in seven innings, his longest outing of the season. The Atlanta native also struck out a season-high six batters in his second losing decision of the season.

Reliever Mauricio Robles came on in the eighth inning for the Fightins two games after he was drilled in the thigh by a hard-hit ball. The Venezuelan was sharp in the outing, striking out four batters in two perfect innings.

Reading looks to avoid the Harrisburg sweep on Tuesday night at 6:05 p.m. when Phillies top prospect Jesse Biddle (1-1, 3.75 ERA) makes his first start in Reading against Harrisburg's Paul Demny (1-1, 4.09 ERA). Biddle, a Germantown Friends product, is making his first start in the Philadelphia region in nearly two years. Tune into Oldies 1340 WRAW-AM or MiLB.TV for the game broadcast with Fightins play-by-play announcer Anthony Oppermann starting at 6:05 p.m.

Fightins Fillers: Earlier in the day, Reading placed LHP Austin Wright on the 7-Day D.L. with left bicep tendonitis. Southpaw Tom Cochran was activated from the Lehigh Valley (AAA) disabled list and assigned to Reading. Cochran is expected to start in Wright's place on Friday night at Richmond...Before the game, Reading held a moment of silence in memory of the lives lost in Monday's Boston bombing.

The Fightin Phils continue their 47th season affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. when they give away a Max Patkin Baseballtown Collector's Postcard to the first 500 adults 15 and over thanks to Computer Wizards. Tickets for the 2013 season can be purchased online at Fightins.com, by phone at 610-370-BALL, or in-person by visiting the FirstEnergy Stadium Ticket Office.
