Rock Cats Win vs Fisher Cats 5-3 on Monday

April 15, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Monday's game began as a pitcher's duel and ended in the Rock Cats favor thanks to a 5-run fifth inning. Five consecutive hits with the bases loaded drove in five runs, all coming with no outs, as the Rock Cats beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-3 at New Britain Stadium. RBI singles by Evan Bigley and Jason Christian tied and gave the New Britain the lead. Reynaldo Rodriguez's two RBI double broke the game open and James Beresford's infield single brought the score to 5-1 and the Cats held on from there.

Rock Cats starter Logan Darnell was super in collecting the first win for a Rock Cats starting pitcher this season. He went 6 2/3 innings, giving up a run on four hits, walking three and striking out eight. He left the game with two out and two on in the seventh, but reliever Aaron Thompson was clutch with his first appearance with the Rock Cats in 2013, getting Kenny Wilson to strike out to end the inning.

New Hampshire sent Marcus Walden to the hill Monday evening and saw him give up eleven hits, five runs, four earned while walking one and striking out one before being knocked out of the fifth inning that saw eleven Rock Cats step up to the plate.

Fisher Cat catcher Sean Ochinko brought the visitors a few runs closer with a two-run home run off reliever Bobby Lanigan and it was ultimately right hander Michael Tonkin who threw one pitch to get the outfielder Wilson to end the game.

The Rock Cats play the second of three games against the Fisher Cats at New Britain Stadium Tuesday night at 6:35 pm. Trevor May will start against Deck McGuire.
