Matt Long Named TL Player of the Week

April 15, 2013 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release

Arkansas Travelers outfielder Matt Long has been named the first Texas League Player of the Week for the 2013 season. The announcement was made by league president Tom Kayser early Monday afternoon. The period of time that Long's award comprises were the first ten games played this season from April 4 - 14.

Long, 25, currently leads the Texas League with 12 runs batted in and is tied for the top spot with 15 base hits. The Santa Clara University product holds a .405/.452/.595 slash line and hit the only grand slam in the Texas League, part of a 6-3 Travs victory at Frisco last Thursday.

With the Travelers near the end of a six-game home stand, Long brings a five-game hitting streak into Monday's 6:30 game at Midland. He finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs batted in during the Travs' 11-8 victory over the RockHounds on Sunday.
