New Hampshire got into the scoring column in the third with an RBI single by Kevin Pillar, but the B-Mets were back at it in the bottom half, as Vaughn's home run put them up 5-1. Both teams picked up single runs in the fifth inning; Brad Glenn hit a solo home run for the Fisher Cats, but Cesar Puello got the run back with an RBI single. Rafael Montero threw five innings, gave up two runs on three hits, and earned the win. Jeff Walters finished the game and earned his second save of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Luis Mateo makes his Double-A debut, after recently being promoted from St. Lucie. In his first start in the Florida State League, Mateo threw 6.2 shutout innings, gave up four hits, and struck out nine to earn the victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals. In 2011 he spent his first professional year with the DSL Mets 1. Mateo finished the year with a 6-1 record and a 2.00 ERA in 63.0 innings pitched. Last year, he spent the season with Brooklyn (SS:A). In 12 starts, he went 4-5 with a 2.45 ERA. For his career, he has struck out 165 batters, and just walked 14. Luis signed with the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2011.

PORTLAND STARTING PITCHER: RHP Anthony Ranaudo makes his second Double-A start of the season, the 11th of his career. In his first start 4/9 vs Reading, he earned the win after throwing five innings, and gave up just one run on five hits. He also struck out six and only walked one. The Belmar, New Jersey native spent all of 2012 with Portland. In nine starts in the rotation, he finished 1-3 with a 6.69 ERA. He struggled with his control, walking 27 hitters in 37.2 innings pitched. This will be his first career start against Binghamton. Ranaudo was drafted by the Red Sox as the 39th overall pick in 2010 out of LSU. He was chosen as a supplemental pick for the loss of free agent Jason Bay.

MORE ON MONTERO: After Rafael Montero struck out six more hitters in yesterday's start, he brings his season total to an Eastern League best 21. In 16.2 innings on the hill, he has walked one batter and held opponents to a .183 batting average.
