Chiefs Win 4-1 in 10 Friday Night

Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs didn't allow an earned run all night and scored three runs in the top of the 10th to beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 4-1 Friday night. The win moves the Chiefs to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in extra inning games.
The Chiefs ran themselves out of a run in the second inning as Jacob Wilson was out between second and third before a triple by Jordan Walton who was stranded 90 feet from home. The Bandits used an error to take the lead against Kurt Heyer in the bottom of the third. A wide throw to first by Breyvic Valera put Joe Sclafani at second base with one out and he moved to third on a groundout to first. Last year's first overall draft pick Carlos Correa put the Bandits in top 1-0 with a double to the centerfield wall.
Peoria bounced right back to tie the game in the fourth against Michael Hauschild. Patrick Wisdom drew a one-out walk and with two down, Walton grounded a double into the left-field corner. Wisdom barely beat the throw home, sliding in to score as the ball bounced away allowing Walton to take third.
Both teams had multiple chances to take the lead over the next few innings but runners lost on the basepaths or left in scoring position kept the game tied into extra innings. Alex Mejia led off the top of the 10th with an infield single and Nick Martini drew a walk from John Neely. Charlie Tilson sacrificed and the Bandits intentionally walked Casey Rasmus to load the bases. Neely struck out Michael Swinson and Ildemaro Vargas ran for Mejia at third base. Valera beat out a slow roller to shortstop as Vargas scored for a 2-1 lead. Wisdom brought home two more as his grounder to third went through the legs of Rio Ruiz and into left field for a 4-1 Chiefs lead.
Quad Cities threatened in the bottom of the 10th as Teoscar Hernandez singled and Correa drew a walk against closer Dixon Llorens. Both runners moved up 90 feet when Ruiz grounded out and Llorens struck out Jesse Wierzbicki for the second out. With the tying run at the plate, Llorens nailed down the save on a groundout to first base to preserve the 4-1 win.
Heyer took a no-decision with a career-high five innings and a career-best eight strikeouts. He walked two and allowed four this and one unearned run. Mike Aldrete threw two shutout innings with one hit allowed while striking out two. Joe Scanio (1-0) threw two shutout innings with one hit allowed and three strikeouts. Llorens allowed one hit and walked one while striking out one for his first save of the season.
