BlueClaws Blinded by Suns, Lose 6-0 in Finale

Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Hagerstown Suns (4-3) picked up three runs in the second inning and lead from there, en route to the 6-0 win in the series finale against the Lakewood BlueClaws (1-6) Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park. The loss sends the BlueClaws to the wrong side of a series sweep for the first time this season.

Josh Warner took the hill, in his second start, for Lakewood and retired the side in order to begin his outing before he ran into trouble in the second.

With one out, Warner (0-1) walked Carlos Lopez and gave up a single to J.R. Higley before Stephen Perez brought home the first run of the game with a double to center. Wes Schill followed two batters later with a two-out single that plated two more runs and gave the Suns a 3-0 lead after the second.

Again, an opposing starter silenced the BlueClaws' lineup in the early innings, this time it was courtesy of Blake Schwartz. In his second outing of the year, first start, the Hagerstown righty retired the first seven in order and nine out of the first 11 men he faced. Schwartz (2-0) finished five shutout innings and allowed just two hits; he did not walk a batter and struck out six.

Hagerstown plated a run without the benefit of a hit off Warner in the fourth inning and picked up another in the eighth off of Felix Santos. They capped off their scoring with an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning against Delvi Francisco.

Lakewood loaded the bases with one out in the eighth against Bryan Harper, but they failed to score as Travis Henke came on and retired Mitch Walding via a strikeout and got Carlos Tocci to fly out to right to end the threat and preserve the shutout.

The Lakewood BlueClaws hit the road for the first time this season and head to Greensboro to take on the Grasshoppers, at NewBridge Bank Park, in the first of a four game set, Thursday night at 7:00 PM. The Grasshoppers will send RHP Ramon del Orbe (0-0, 11.25) to the mound and the BlueClaws will counter with RHP Shane Watson (0-0, 1.50). The BlueClaws will return to FirstEnergy Park next Thursday and will play host to the Savannah Sand Gnats at 6:35 PM.
