Rock Cats to Honor First Responders in Ceremony on Thursday for Home Opener
April 9, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, will be honoring First Responders throughout the state of Connecticut prior to its home opener this Thursday (April 11) at New Britain Stadium. Members of the Connecticut State Police, several firefighters and Emergency Medical personnel will take part in an on-field ceremony and then join the Rock Cats players during introductions. The Rock Cats will be wearing Sandy Hook Elementary School patches on their uniforms to honor the lives lost in Newtown this past December. The first pitch has been scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and gates will open at 5:05 p.m. The game is presented by McCue Mortgage and is followed by a postgame firework show.
The game will also serve as a benefit for the Sandy Hook Workers Assistance Fund. This fund was put together for the teachers, police officers and first responders who were directly impacted. For families and organizations looking to join us on Thursday, two ticket packages have been put together with a portion of the ticket proceeds going to the fund (5 tickets for $35 or 20 tickets for $140). Fans can also help in this effort by purchasing a special Rock Cats jersey available in our Third Base Shoppe, featuring a Sandy Hook commemorative patch or by purchasing balls for our postgame Launch-A-Ball. Individual tickets are still available for the home opener and all seven games during the first homestand by calling the Rock Cats Box office at 860-224-8383.
