Rochester Red Wings News Release

Rochester Red Wings (1-3) @ Scranton/WB RailRiders (0-4)

PNC Field - 6:35 p.m.

LHP Andrew Albers (NR) vs. RHP Chris Bootcheck (NR)

TODAY'S GAME: Fresh off their first win of the 2013 season - a 14-5 drubbing of the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field - the Wings start a 7-game road trip tonight against the Scranton/WB RailRiders (Yankees) at the newly renovated PNC Field in Scranton, PA. Southpaw Andrew Albers will start for the Red Wings making his Triple-A debut after being a mid season All-Star with New Britain last year. Albers will be opposed by RHP Chris Bootcheck who will be making his Scranton/WB debut after signing with the Yankees organization in the offseason. The newly named RailRiders (formerly Yankees) are still looking for their first win of the season after being swept in a four-game series by Pawtucket at home. Last season, the Red Wings went just 6-10 against Scranton/WB despite playing all 16 games at Frontier Field.

COLABELLO HONORED : Red Wings' first baseman Chris Colabello, in his first season at Triple-A, was named the inaugural International League Player-of-the-Week in 2013 after going 9-for-15 (.600) with 2 HR, 3 RBI and 6 runs scored in four games. Currently, the 29-year-old slugger leads the IL in hits (9), on-base percentage (.667) and runs (6) while ranking T-2nd in slugging percentage (1.000) and 5th in total bases (15). Colabello wrapped up the award after going 4-for-4 Sunday with a 2-run homer in the Wings 14-5 win over Buffalo.

-In Sunday's game Colabello set a career high with 4 hits and tied his career high with 3 runs (4/17/12).

TODAY'S STARTER: The Red Wings will send LHP Andrew Albers to the hill tonight to make his Triple-A debut. Albers was supposed to start the year in the Wings bullpen but was moved into the starting rotation after fellow lefty Pedro Hernandez was recalled by Minnesota on Sunday. Although only in his 5th pro season, Albers has had an interesting pro career having already battled back from Tommy John Surgery (6/17/2009) and spent a season (2010) in independent league baseball. The 27-year-old was originally drafted by the Padres in the 10th round of the 2008 draft and was signed by the Twins on 3/11/11 out of the independent Can-Am League. He made 17 starts with New Britain (AA) last season going 4-3 with a 3.75 ERA.

MORE ABOUT YESTERDAY...:

-The Wings scored 5 runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings. It was the first time the Wings scored 5 or more runs in consecutive innings since 7/19/12 @ NOR when they scored 5 runs in the 5th and 6th innings

-The 7 combined home runs hit was the most in a Red Wings game since 7/21/11 vs. Durham when the Bulls hit all 7 against the Red Wings.

-The middle of the Red Wings order - Oswaldo Arcia, Chris Colabello & Clete Thomas - went a combined 10-for-13 with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 9 RBI and 8 runs scored

-Virgil Vasquez earned the first win for the Wings this season despite yielding 4 HR... Since 2005, only 3 other Red Wings pitchers have allowed 4 HR in one game and none did in a win.

-Rochester avoided falling to 0-4 for the first time since 1978

-The Wings snapped a five-game losing streak to the Bisons dating back to last year.

WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS...

-Will win consecutive games for the first time since 8/27-8/28/12

-Will have their first victory at PNC Field in Scranton, PA since 7/10/11 after the two teams played all 16 games last year at Frontier Field
