Lexington Legends News Release

(AUGUSTA, Ga.) The Augusta GreenJackets overcame early Lexington leads in both games and swept a doubleheader from the Legends Saturday night. In each of the two seven-inning games, the final score was 4-1.

In game one, the Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Cam Gallagher doubled, went to third on a single by Michael Antonio and scored on a double by Fred Ford.

But the GreenJackets took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. The rally started with two outs and the bases empty when Shayne Houck reached first base on an error by Antonio, the third baseman. Singles by Jesus Galindo and Matt Duffy produced a run, and Mitch Delfino's double plated two more to give the GreenJackets a 3-1 lead.

Augusta added its final run in the sixth inning. Stephen Branca tripled with two outs and scored when first baseman Nic Cuckovich committed an error on a ground ball hit by Eric Sim.

Chris Stratton (1-0) worked the first five innings and got the win. He allowed six hits and one run, walked one batter and struck out three. Tyler Mizenko pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn his first save. Lexington starter Miguel Almonte (0-1) took the loss. He gave up five hits, three unearned runs, struck out three and did not walk a batter in four and two-thirds innings.

The Legends also scored first in the second game. With one out in the top of the first inning, Humberto Arteaga singled, advanced to second on a walk to Bubba Starling, and scored on a two-out single by Antonio.

Augusta answered with all four of its runs in the bottom of the second. Rafael Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk from Legends' starter Christian Binford. Branca followed with a single, sending Rodriguez to third, from where he scored on a base hit by Ben Turner. Shayne Houck's single brought in Branca with the second run as Turner advanced to third. Turner scored when Travious Relaford grounded out to first, and Houck tallied the final run on a single by Galindo.

Joan Gregorio (1-0) allowed three hits over the first five innings and picked up the victory. Stephen Johnson recorded the save. Christian Binford (0-1) worked the first five innings for the Legends and was the losing pitcher.

The Legends learned late Friday night that first baseman Mark Threlkeld, who was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat of the season in Friday's game, suffered a broken left forearm, and will be out of action for an extended period.

Augusta has taken the first three games of the series, which concludes with a Sunday afternoon game. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
