Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- With the BayBears down by a run in the top of the eighth, Brent Clevlen blasted a two-run homer to put Mobile ahead for the first time this season and ultimately lead the BayBears to a 6-5 victory over the Mississippi Braves Saturday evening at Trustmark Park.

Mississippi (2-1) and Mobile (1-2) entered the top of the eighth with the Braves leading 5-2. Ender Inciarte walked, stole second and took third on a ground out. He came in to score on a wild pitch, cutting the Braves lead to 5-3. Nick Evans singled and Jon Griffin followed with a triple to make it a one-run game before Clevlen blasted the homer.

The M-Braves scored five runs on nine hits while the BayBears plated six runs on seven hits. Mobile also committed one error.

In his Double-A debut, M-Braves lefty Alex Wood went five innings and faced just one batter over the minimum. Wood limited the BayBears to one hit and one walk while fanning seven batters on the night. He did not factor in the decision.

The M-Braves scored first for the third consecutive night. Dan Brewer led off the bottom of the first with a double, moved to third on a ground out and came in to score on Christian Marrero's singled to right field.

Mississippi extended its lead in the third. Marrero and Kyle Russell reached on walks. Edward Salcedo followed with a RBI-single to right field, plating Marrero and making it a 2-0 game. Jose Martinez then delivered a two-out, two-run single to center field to make it 4-0.

Mobile cut the M-Braves lead to 4-2 in the seventh. Evans walked. Griffin and Clevlen both singled to load the bases. Nick Ahmed followed with a walk, allowing Evans to score Mobile's first run. After a pitching change, Cody Martin balked to allow another run across. Martin struck out the final two batters to end the inning.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the frame. Luis Nunez reached on an error by the shortstop and Marrero walked. Salcedo then singled through the right side, driving in Nunez to make it a 5-2 game. However, Mobile responded with the four-run eighth.

Brett Lorin (1-0) worked one inning and picked up the win. Kevin Munson (S, 1) came on to work the final two innings and record his first save of the season. Ian Thomas (0-1) suffered the loss for the M-Braves, working an inning and one-third.

In game four of this five-game series at Trustmark Park, M-Braves right-hander Gus Schlosser (0-0, 0.00) counters BayBears righty Bradin Hagens (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Gates open at 12:00 PM.
