Binghamton Senators News Release

NORFOLK, V.A. -The Binghamton Senators were on the road at Norfolk Scope Arena to take on the Admirals tonight for the first of back-to-back meetings. Trailing 2-0 after 40 minutes of play, the B-Sens were unable to comeback as the Admirals triumphed, winning the game, 2-1.

Norfolk stood alone on the scoreboard in the opening period as Steven Whitney hammered one in on the power play with the help of John Mitchell and Charlie Sarault at the 8:06 mark. The tally was Whitney's first professional goal.

Patrick Maroon would cash in for the Admirals again on the man advantage putting Norfolk up 2-0 at 12:58 of the second period courtesy of Sarault and Sami Vatanen. The B-Sens finished the period trailing on the shot clock nine to 14.

Binghamton would eventually get on the board at 13:18 into the final period of play as Cole Schneider tallied his 14th goal of the season after receiving passes from Brett Lebda and Mark Stone. Despite coming back with a late goal, Binghamton was unable to score the equalizer. The B-Sens would conclude the night going 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Admirals finished 2-for-8.

Nathan Lawson started between the pipes for Binghamton making 29 saves on 31 shots. Frederik Andersen earned the nod in net for Norfolk earning his 21st win of the season after stopping 28 of 29 shots.

Although the B-Sens failed to earn the single point they needed to clinch a 2013 Calder Cup playoff berth on their own, they secured a ticket to the playoffs as the Albany Devils fell to the Providence Bruins and the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Portland Pirates.

The B-Sens face the Admirals tomorrow in a 7:15 p.m. rematch. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 15 minutes before game time as Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens, hosts the Countdown to Faceoff.
