Connecticut Whale News Release

HARTFORD, April 5, 2013: Connecticut Whale general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Whale has signed forward Andrew Carroll to an American Hockey League contract and has loaned Carroll to the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.

Carroll has been with the Whale since signing a Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement January 30, and has skated in 24 games, notching one goal and four assists for five points, along with 40 penalty minutes and a +2 rating. Prior to joining the Whale, the fourth-year pro out of the University of Minnesota-Duluth had played in 36 ECHL games with the Steelheads, for whom he had 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points, and 45 PIM, in 36 games.

In 148 career AHL games-played with the Whale/Hartford Wolf Pack, Abbotsford Heat, Peoria Rivermen and Hershey Bears, Carroll has amassed totals of five goals and 14 assists for 19 points, as well as 250 penalty minutes. In 115 career ECHL contests with the Steelheads, Charlotte Checkers and Greenville Road Warriors, the 6-0, 205-pound Shoreview, MN native has scored 52 goals and added 41 assists for 93 points, while amassing 155 PIM.

The Whale are back in action on home ice tonight, as the Springfield Falcons visit the XL Center for a 7:00 PM game. Tonight is the Whale's last Friday-night home game of the regular season. That means it is the last chance to take advantage of the Whale's special Friday-night food and beverage deal, which features $1 hot dogs and $2 beers until the end of the first intermission.

Also tonight, "Miracle on Ice" 1980 Team USA gold medal-winning hockey players Jack O'Callahan, Dave Silk and Steve Janaszak will be making a special appearance, to support "A Miracle for Justina", which is a fund to help defray the associated expenses of Justina, a 14-year-old West Hartford girl who is dealing with a complicated set of health issues.

Tickets to all Whale home games start as low as $10 each ($12 each when tickets are purchased on the day of the game), and are on sale now at the Public Power Ticket Office at the XL Center, through TicketMaster Charge-by-Phone at 1-800-745-3000 and on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
