Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX - The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that defenseman Gord Baldwin has been loaned to the Idaho Steelheads, their ECHL affiliate. Texas also announced that rookie defenseman William Wrenn has been released from his professional tryout contract and has signed a standard AHL contract.
Baldwin, 26, is in his sixth pro season and has five assists, 33 penalty minutes in 29 AHL games for Texas this season. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native originally signed a PTO with the Stars on December 28th and was signed to an SPC on February 26th. Baldwin began the season with Idaho, where he recorded 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists), 39 penalty minutes and a +11 rating in 26 ECHL games. He will rejoin the Steelheads who are currently two games into their first round series with the Colorado Eagles of the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Baldwin was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the third round (69th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and spent parts of four seasons with the club's AHL affiliate in Quad City and Abbotsford.
Wrenn, 21, signed at PTO with Texas on February 19th and has registered seven points (2 goals, 5 assists), 21 penalty minutes and a plus-four rating in 19 AHL games for the Stars. The Anchorage, Alaska native started the season with the Alaska Aces, where he appeared in 51 ECHL games, recorded 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists) and 21 penalty minutes and represented the Aces at the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game. In his first professional season, Wrenn made his AHL debut on January 16th against the Hershey Bears after signing a PTO with the Worcester Sharks the previous day. He played two seasons with the U.S. National Development Under-18 team, where he was teammates with current Stars goaltender Jack Campbell and helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2009 IIHF Under-18 World Championships. He also played parts of two seasons of NCAA Division I college hockey for the University of Denver Pioneers (2009-2011) of the WCHA and parts of two seasons of major junior hockey with the Portland Winterhawks (2010-2012) of the WHL. Wrenn was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
