Former Natural Derrick Robinson Gets Call to Major Leagues

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - With the purchase of his contract by the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, outfielder Derrick Robinson will become the 32nd Natural to play in the Major Leagues. Robinson was added to the Reds' 40-man roster after outfielder Ryan Ludwick was placed on the 15-Day Disabled List. Robinson, who signed a minor league free agent contract with the Reds over the winter, batted .300 in 22 Cactus League appearances with the Reds this spring.

Robinson spent 2012 with Triple-A Omaha, batting .278 with 113 hits, 12 doubles, 28 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 116 games.

In 2010, Robinson was named a Texas League mid-season and post-season All-Star while leading the league with 50 stolen bases. At the plate, he batted .286 with a career-high 146 hits, 26 doubles, two home runs, and 48 RBI in 127 games. Robinson returned to the Naturals in 2011, leading the Texas League in stolen bases for the second straight year with 55 while batting .251 with 105 hits, six doubles, 28 RBI in 107 games.

Prior to joining the Naturals, Robinson led the Carolina League with 69 steals in 2009 as a member of the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He led Royals minor leagues in stolen bases with 35 stolen bases in 2007 and 62 stolen bases in 2008 and was the inaugural winner of the Willie Wilson Award, given to the organization's top baserunner. Robinson also won the award in 2010.
