Columbus Blue Jackets Acquire Goaltender Michael Leighton, Third Round Pick in 2015 NHL Draft for Go

COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired goaltender Michael Leighton and a third round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for goaltender Steve Mason, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Leighton, 31, has gone 35-41-19 with a 2.97 goals-against average, .901 save percentage and four shutouts in 105 career NHL games with Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina. He has also appeared in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games, compiling an 8-4 record, 2.54 goals-against average, .912 save percentage and three shutouts in 2010 and 2011 with the Flyers. This season, Leighton is 1-0-0 with a 4.00 goals-against average and .889 save percentage in one game with the Flyers and 2-0-0 with a 2.02 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in two games with the American Hockey League's Adirondack Phantoms.

Leighton was Chicago's fifth pick, 165th overall, in the 1999 NHL Draft. He has spent parts of 10 seasons in the NHL with his best year coming in 2009-10 when he went 16-5-2 with a 2.48 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and one shutout in 27 games. He then went 8-3 with a 2.46 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and three shutouts in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Mason went 96-99-27 with a 2.90 goals-against average, .903 save percentage and 19 shutouts in 232 career games with the Blue Jackets. Columbus' 2nd pick, 69th overall, in the 2006 NHL Draft was the 2009 Calder Trophy winner as the NHL's rookie of the year after posting 33-20-7 mark with a 2.29 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 61 games.
