Normal CornBelters Re-Sign More Familiar Faces

April 3, 2013 - Frontier League (FL) Normal CornBelters

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have re-signed right-handed pitchers Drew Provence and Josh Joseph. They both spent their first professional season with the CornBelters in 2012. The CornBelters will play their first regular season home game of the 2013 season at the ballpark on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City Thunderbolts (CEFCU Opening Night).

Making nine starts for the CornBelters last season, Provence was 5-3 with a 3.52 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched. He tied for the team lead in wins with Tyler Lavigne. The Fayetteville, GA native played collegiately at North Greenville University (Tigerville, SC).

"Drew had a solid first year in pro ball last season," said CornBelters Field Manager, Brooks Carey. "We expect him to be even better this season."

Pitching in a team-high 37 games for the CornBelters in 2012, Joseph was 1-4 with a 4.59 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 51 innings. The Pensacola, FL native played collegiately at The University of Virginia's College at Wise (Wise, VA).

"I liked what I saw from Josh last season," said Carey. "He's got a very good arm and a year of experience to go along with it. I'm looking forward to seeing him in spring training.
