UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 2, 2013) - Connecticut Sun head coach Anne Donovan announced today that Catherine Proto will join Jennifer Gillom as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.

"I have had the pleasure of working with Catherine for the last five years in both the WNBA and at Seton Hall," Donovan said. "Catherine has a great basketball mind. Her seven years of experience with the New York Liberty will be a tremendous asset to our staff."

Proto was an assistant on Donovan's staff at Seton Hall. Prior to that, she spent seven seasons as the manager of scouting and video operations for the New York Liberty. An extension of the coaching staff, she also oversaw the development of the team's playbook, coordination of all live advanced scouting, travel and budget as well as the taping and breaking down of practice, games and opponent's film, film exchange, development of team and opponent tape breakdown and creation of individual player film.

"I am very excited to be joining the Connecticut Sun organization," Proto said. "I look forward to continuing the winning tradition in Connecticut and working alongside coach Anne Donovan again this season."

Proto interned in the Liberty's video operations department in 2000 and 2001 before joining the team fulltime in 2002. Prior to the Liberty, Proto was the director of basketball operations for the women's basketball program at the University of Rhode Island. She also worked as an intern at the Women's Sports Foundation in the awards and grants department.

She received a Master's degree in physical education from Springfield College in 2002.
